In 2006, Department of Biological Sciences was upgraded to Faculty of Biological Sciences and Microbiology was introduced as a separate Department along with four others. The Department of Microbiology of QAU is well recognized for teaching and research in Pakistan and is equipped with modern research facilities. The major equipments present are; UV visible Spectrophotometers, Fermenters (Lab Scale and Pilot Scale), Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer, High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Gas Chromatography (GC), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Gel Electrophoresis unit both for protein and DNA analysis, PCR Machines, Autoclaves, Microscopes, Shaking Incubators, Biological Safety Cabinets, Centrifuges, and Incubators etc. Till December 2016, 87 Ph.D and 501 M.Phil degrees have been awarded to students worked on various research areas in the domain of Microbiology.
